The new essential questions...

What drives us? What are those questions we ask ourselves, even if we don't expect a hard and fast answer? Those questions that we seek to answer, hoping the search leads to the embodiment of the question, are the essential questions.

Here at #ISTE2015 Angela Maiers posed a question to the twitterverse:

It got me thinking. Maybe that's it. Maybe the question I need to ask has no easy, concrete answer. Not about data, not about assessment. Maybe it's about the quest for the answer, the journey, not the question or even the hard and fast answer. It's about the quest, not the answer.

Angela's question turned into this conversation...

And we ended up here...

I'm making this into a poster for my lab. I want all my students and colleagues to see it and think about it. The answer will be different for all, but I think it's important to ask the questions, even if we don't know how to answer it.

I don't know if I'm awesome. I don't know if I was yesterday or will be tomorrow. I hope I do awesome things. I hope I push my students to seek awesome things. I don't know what "awesome" means for everyone, but I'm pretty sure I'll know it when I see it. When the person I'm looking at, student or colleague, has that gleam in their eye, that excitement to continue whatever journey they are on. I think that's the awesome.

Is what I'm doing helping those around me be more awesome, and make the world more awesome? I hope so. I'll keep asking that question because I think the answers will always be different, always be inspiring, and always be awesome...

This is why I love Twitter. This is why I love conferences. The connecting, the learning, the inspiration.

Thank you, Angela, for asking that question and pushing me to think and seek...
